Belief in oneself is one of the most important bricks in building any successful venture. Lydia M. Child Franchising is a driving contributor to the economy. In the U.S. alone, franchising had an economic output of approximately $790 billion in 2021. And more and more people recognize the power of franchising to help them achieve their dreams of home ownership. An estimated 790,000 franchise establishments opened in 2022. While you can choose from many established names in franchising, many people also like the idea of getting in on the ground floor with a new franchising system. After all, even the biggest names started with one location before growing. There are risks with an emerging brand, but the rewards outweigh them — from lower franchising fees to more location options. What to look for in an emerging franchise Emerging franchise brands often bring new and innovative concepts to the market. This could be a unique product or service, a distinctive business model, or a novel approach to an existing industry. Even though these new brands, they’ve typically demonstrated some success in their initial locations. They may have a few pilot stores or units that have shown promising results and attracted the attention of potential franchisees. Take note of how scalable the brand is. A successful franchise concept should be easily replicated across various locations with consistent success. The emerging brand should have a plan for expanding its footprint and reaching new markets that are adaptable. What works in one location may need to be adjusted for success in another, and the emerging franchise should be able to accommodate these variations. An emerging franchise brand should have a well-defined and unique brand identity. This includes a recognizable logo, a consistent brand message, and a positive reputation that franchisees can leverage to attract customers. Finally, for a franchise system to thrive, there needs to be strong support from the franchisor to franchisees. This support may include training programs, marketing assistance, ongoing operational guidance, and other resources to help franchisees succeed. Starting a franchise business Starting a franchise business — an emerging brand or an established name — can be exciting and potentially lucrative. If you are considering starting your franchise in the New Year, here are some things to consider: Investigate the Franchise: Research the franchise thoroughly. Understand its business model, reputation, and financial health. Consider talking to existing franchisees to get their perspectives. Financial Planning: Understand the initial investment required, including franchise fees, equipment, inventory, and other startup costs. Also, consider ongoing operating expenses such as rent, utilities, employee salaries, and marketing. Create a comprehensive business plan to estimate your costs and revenues. Seek Legal Advice: Consult with a franchise attorney to ensure you understand all legal aspects, including the franchise agreement and your rights and responsibilities. Training and Support: Choose a franchise that offers comprehensive training and ongoing support. This can be crucial for your success, especially if you are new to the industry. Location Selection: Choose a location based on your target audience. Consider foot traffic, accessibility, and the demographics of the area. Negotiate favorable lease terms, considering the long-term sustainability of the business. Marketing and Branding: I nvest in local marketing to create awareness in your community. Customize promotional efforts to suit local preferences. Establish a strong online presence. Utilize social media and other digital platforms to connect with your target audience. Brand to watch — Wallaby Window Remodeling and home improvement have surged in the United States since the pandemic. In 2020, 76% of American homeowners did a home improvement project, while the industry earned $1.1 billion in 2021. Franchises that capitalize on this industry’s tremendous growth are experiencing strong returns. What better way to ensure your success and explore your goal of being your own boss than by investing in an emerging brand focused on home improvement? Wallaby Windows & Doors is a sales and marketing franchise with a proven track record in exponential franchise growth and disrupting the home-service franchise category. The Wallaby Windows franchise model was designed with the semi-absentee franchise owner in mind and offers flexible ownership options. Other advantages include quickly ramping up a franchise location and a moderate investment, thanks to no need for a brick-and-mortar location. Franchises benefit from the need for minimal staff and equipment to get a Wallaby Windows & Doors up and running. The brand also boasts sales software technology that gives customers an invoice the same day as the estimate. Franchisees run the business during daytime hours, meaning your nights and weekends are your own. Finally, territories are generous, containing 200,000 or more potential clients. Wallaby Windows & Doors provides a proven business and system with high-ticket invoices and great returns. It is an ideal opportunity for a semi-absentee franchisee or an operator interested in multiple units, and it doesn’t require previous experience. All you need is a strong motivation to succeed, some experience managing a small business and strong communication skills. Best of all, a Wallaby Windows & Doors location can be up and running in as little as 60 days of onboarding inception, allowing you to quickly take advantage of the 17% increase in home remodeling expected from 2021 to 2022 alone. Potential franchisees interested in building an empire and who are prepared to handle the workload that comes with it should reach out to learn more. Remember, the success of any franchise business is often a result of careful planning, ongoing learning, and a dedication to delivering quality products or services. Be patient and stay committed to your long-term goals. Franchise consultant Seth Lederman can help save you time and money and help you find the best-emerging franchise for you and your dreams. Did you have a lemonade stand when you were a kid? What did you do to make extra money? I remember my brother Alex and I starting a lemonade stand when we were kids. Our friends all helped and even though we drank most of the lemonade, we had people stop by and buy it. It was such an amazing experience to have someone give you money for something you made. It made me feel independent and entrepreneurial. That same drive exists in a world where innovation knows no age, young minds are proving that entrepreneurship is not restricted by the number of candles on a birthday cake. Across the globe, children are stepping into the realm of business with fresh ideas, resilience, and an inherent passion to make a difference. Many of these businesses have the ability to franchise if they so choose and knowing that the growth of their vision is not limited to their city or even the amount of money they have in their bank account is a powerful reason why franchising needs to be taught to young entrepreneurs. 1. Moziah Bridges - Mo's Bows: At the tender age of nine, Moziah Bridges from Memphis, Tennessee, embarked on a journey that would redefine the world of fashion. Recognizing the lack of stylish and unique bow ties for children, Moziah founded "Mo's Bows," a company that specializes in handmade bow ties. What started as a simple desire to stand out at formal events turned into a thriving business. Moziah's entrepreneurial spirit led him to appear on the hit television show Shark Tank, where he secured a deal with Daymond John. Today, Mo's Bows has grown into a successful enterprise, with a range of accessories and partnerships with major retailers. Moziah's story highlights the power of passion and the impact a young entrepreneur can have on an industry. 2. Alina Morse - Zollipops: Alina Morse, at the age of seven, came up with a sweet solution to a common problem: oral health. Frustrated with the lack of delicious and tooth-friendly candy options, Alina created Zollipops, a sugar-free lollipop that is not only tasty but also promotes good oral hygiene. Alina's business acumen has earned her the title of the youngest person to ever land a product on the shelves of major retailers like Walmart. Zollipops has since expanded its product line to include other oral care products under the brand "Zolli Candy." Alina's success not only showcases the potential for innovation at a young age but also the importance of addressing real-world problems through entrepreneurial solutions. 3. Hannah Grace — BeYOUtiful After being challenged by her father to create the same products she loved from her favorite health and beauty stores, Hannah Grace got to work. She quickly learned how to make bath bombs and soon started her own bath and beauty brand, BeYOUtiful. You can find her products on her website and in retail stores. Grace, who has type 1 diabetes, donates 10 percent of every online purchase to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. 4.Caleb Nelson — Romeo Rickshaws: Caleb Nelson, who lives in Cedar City, Utah, opened Romeo’s Rickshaws with his dad in 2017 when he was only 14 years old. The pedicab business launched during the Utah Shakespeare Festival, one of the biggest tourist events in Utah, and flourished among the city’s visitors. Soon, it expanded, offering pedicab rides across the downtown and transportation for special events like weddings. Nelson brought on additional drivers and began offering local tours of Cedar City. Romeo’s Rickshaws cost nothing, setting them apart from all other transportation services. Instead, they operate on a tip-only system. 5. Mikaila Ulmer - Me & the Bees Lemonade: Mikaila Ulmer, at the age of four, received a beekeeping kit as a gift, sparking her fascination with bees and their importance to the ecosystem. Drawing on her love for lemonade and the family recipe, Mikaila founded "Me & the Bees Lemonade" at the age of ten. What makes her product unique is the use of honey as a sweetener, supporting local beekeeping and environmental causes. Mikaila's lemonade gained widespread attention after her appearance on Shark Tank, where she secured a deal with Daymond John and expanded her business significantly. Beyond her success in the beverage industry, Mikaila has become an advocate for sustainability and youth entrepreneurship. These young entrepreneurs prove that age is no barrier to making a significant impact in the business world. From fashion to oral care, baked goods, hair care, and beverages, these children-turned-entrepreneurs have demonstrated creativity, resilience, and a keen understanding of market needs. Their stories serve as an inspiration for other young minds, encouraging them to dream big and pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. The success of these start-ups not only showcases the potential of young entrepreneurs but also emphasizes the importance of fostering an environment that nurtures and supports the innovative ideas of the next generation. When this creativity is paired with the franchise model, amazing things start happening. While you were reading this article and thinking, this reminds of this brand or that brand - don’t be surprised if you see some of these as a franchise coming to a town near you soon!

Mark Baldwin has launched a new business he hopes will become a family legacy. And in a way, he’s been preparing himself for more than two decades to become the owner, along with his wife, Katie, of Floor Coverings International of Seattle. The 43-year-old spent 22 years working in corporate finance and human resources for both GM Financial and Amazon, leading both large and small teams in a variety of areas. Now he’s putting his corporate skill set to use as a small-business owner. “I’ve always thrived creating new things and helping people, but I wanted to do it on my own,” Baldwin said. “I’ve always enjoyed working with high-performing teams and Floor Coverings International is the best of the best. Their corporate mindset is customer obsession and that goes hand-in-hand with my experience at GM and Amazon.” Floor Coverings International is changing the game for those looking to upgrade their homes or offices with new flooring. With their innovative and award-winning customer service tools and unique mobile showroom experience, customers can now view more than 3,000 flooring options. Launched in September, Floor Coverings International of Seattle serves customers throughout North Seattle, Lake Forest Park, and Shoreline. The Design Associates at Floor Coverings International provide personalized assistance in choosing from their extensive collection of flooring styles and materials. The mobile showroom allows clients to see how different options will look with existing furniture, lighting, and paint colors all within the comfort of their home. “Being out on my own for the first time is exciting, but partnering with a franchise that supports its franchisees and customers in the way that Floor Coverings International does is the most exciting part for me,” Mark said. Floor Coverings International has already revolutionized the market as it consistently ranks as the No.1 Mobile Flooring Franchise in North America by Entrepreneur Magazine. As projected by Hardware Retailing, home improvement sales are expected to reach $625 billion by 2025 worldwide. The flooring industry is undergoing significant changes and innovations as consumers demand more quality, variety, and sustainability in their flooring choices. According to a recent report by Expert Market Research, the United States flooring market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.50 percent through 2028, driven by the increasing population, rapid urbanization, and growing investments in renovations and remodeling of infrastructures. According to the latest figures, there are more than 5.5 million family businesses in the United States and family-owned businesses contribute to 57 percent of the GDP and employ 63 percent of the workforce. Baldwin said setting boundaries is an important part of making a family-owned business work. “Work stays at the door, and we focus on the kids and pets when we get home,” he said. “At work, we each have our own duties and own that part of the business,” he said.

With Rick Robinson, President Franchise Genesis. Rick, What are the first steps for launching my franchise in the U.S.? I have a solid understanding of my business but reside outside the U.S. Is this feasible? Yes, it is achievable. First, you must register your brand name and logo in the U.S. We can help you with this. Can you outline the required documentation for establishing a franchise and who is responsible for handling the legal aspects of the process? A franchise attorney prepares a Franchise Disclosure Document to enable you to sell either Franchise Units or a Master who would be responsible for selling the franchises for you. You will also need an Operations Manual detailing how to run the business for the franchisees. We will develop this with you as well. How is the process of establishing and growing my presence handled? Are there support systems in place to aid in scaling the business and recruiting franchisees? We provide training and marketing services to help you find qualified franchise candidates. Please provide an estimate of the overall cost involved in launching the franchise. Our package includes your legal documents, Operations Manual, Website Landing Pages, and Franchise Brochure. The cost for these (depending on your model) will be $70,000-$100,000 What is the proposed number of initial locations we plan to start with? At least one successful corporate location. With a successful track record, accolades, reviews, and revenue from my business in my home country, how will these accomplishments be acknowledged and credited in the U.S. market? I suggest having a U.S. website describing all of this for people to see and read about. What is the expected timeline for the entire process from initiation to operational launch? Our process takes 4-5 months (not including you opening a corporate location). Can the entire process be conducted online, or is hiring someone in the U.S. to initiate operations necessary? Yes, for the first year, we provide ongoing consulting services along with much marketing that is included. Can you share examples of businesses you have previously launched to give me an understanding of your experience and success in similar endeavors? We franchise businesses from almost every industry, such as food, retail, fitness, health and wellness, med spas, senior care, and many more. Some start slow-selling a few franchises in their first year, but we have had clients sell over 200 locations in less than two years.
