“ A business like an automobile, has to be driven, in order to get results. ” — B. C. Forbes From repairs to maintenance, personalization to EV technology, the auto industry is one of the world’s largest and most influential markets. Americans’ love affair with cars has remained stable in recent years, but technology changes and environmental innovations are rapidly increasing. As a result, auto-related franchise opportunities are shifting and existing businesses must learn to adapt to new challenges. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and a love of cars, a car-related franchise might be something to consider. With the potential for change coming to this century-old industry, you could be at the forefront of the upcoming auto revolution! Hitting the road Cars generate big money. U.S. car and automobile manufacturing will make $104.1 billion in 2023 , about 3% of America’s GDP. Like many industries, autos took a hit during the pandemic, but the signs of recovery are strong with increased demand. Car sales are forecasted to increase by 5.1% this year and 3.3% in 2024. In all, more than 91% of households in America own a car. Meanwhile, it’s not just gas-powered cars driving that demand. Electric vehicles, or EVs, are growing in popularity. A reported 1.9 million electric vehicles are currently on the road, which is expected to increase to 28.3 million by the next decade. As a result, a whole new need is arising for charging stations, battery refurbishers and EV-focused repair shops. As innovations come along, expect even more opportunities to open up. Entrepreneurs who enjoy being on the cutting edge of tech changes will have a lot to be excited about in this arena in the coming years. Service-related franchise opportunities Beyond franchises that sell cars, there is a world of opportunities for owning your own car-related business. Perhaps the most obvious are repair-related. These can range from body shops that fix dents and dings to garages that work on transmissions, engines and more. Then there is a range of quick-oil change options. Let’s not forget the ongoing need for new tires or to fix cracked windshields. While most Americans love the freedom that comes with car ownership, they know that it comes with many ongoing maintenance needs that they must keep on top of to stay on the road. Americans, on average, keep their cars for 12 years. Only some make it through that time without needing repair work to keep their vehicle running and reliable. IBIS World reported that the auto mechanics industry’s market size, measured by revenue, exceeded $76 billion in 2022. The business of auto customization Beyond repairs and new tech, there are multiple opportunities in customization and restyling. Window tinting is one example of this space, part of a $10 billion industry. Black Optix Tint is an upscale franchise option with proven scalable systems and processes that keep customers returning and has allowed them to maintain a strong reputation. The brand has been built on a firm foundation of efficiency and great customer service when it comes to tinting and auto styling. Black Optix Tint offers interested entrepreneurs a business with reasonable overhead and affordable start-up costs. They provide a solid ROI, with an above-average return by the end of the second year in business, and sound marketplace positioning, thanks to their decade in the industry. Financially, Black Optix Tint requires a franchise fee of $49,500, included in the estimated minimum initial investment of $173,100 . The brand’s royalty fee is 6% of gross sales. Black Optix Tint values operators with discipline and integrity. Anyone who enjoys leading by example and possesses strong communication skills may be a good fit. Other qualities Black Optix Tint looks for in franchisees include an optimistic attitude, sales forecasting experience and excellent time management skills. Beyond tinting, franchise systems are also available in alarms and after-market accessories. Some even specialize specifically in truck accessories. Other car-related service options include car washing and detailing franchises. Selecting the best option for you Numerous business opportunities exist when it comes to America’s love of vehicles. The hard part may be picking just one! If an auto-related industry sounds appealing, the next step is to do some homework. Investigate the franchises that interest you to learn more about their history, the level of support they provide franchisees and the terms of their franchising deal. The benefit of pursuing a franchise business is the proven model you will be getting and the ongoing support. So make sure that your chosen franchise offers you the help you need to succeed. Consider the strengths you bring and your level of commitment. Some franchisors require more hands-on effort from franchisees, while others allow you to step back into a purely managerial role. Be honest about which works best for your strengths and lifestyle goals before entering any deal. Of course, it’s essential to consider your budget. Consider what is needed in your area, too. These are just the basic questions to consider when starting your franchise search. Think that an auto-related franchise could be the engine that drives your professional future? Learn what opportunities are available, and you can speed up your entrepreneurship dreams today. Contact Seth Lederman at Frannexus to discuss your options and discover how to become your own boss. In the world of business, chance encounters and strategic connections often lead to remarkable opportunities. Such was the case when Ron Redfern, a successful franchisee with City Wide, introduced me to his friends Jared Hill and Bo Hamilton. That introduction proved instrumental in setting the stage for a great business partnership. Starting on a quest to find the perfect franchise opportunity requires dedication, research, and a strong partnership. In the case of Jared Hill and Bo Hamilton, two determined friends, this journey was no exception. After exploring various franchise concepts, they found their ideal fit in a Strickland Brother’s Oil franchise in Knoxville, Tennessee. I found by working with them that Jared and Bo’s friendship was built on trust, loyalty, and a mutual desire for success. Recognizing the potential in their combined efforts, they decided to pool their strengths and embark on a business venture together. With their complementary skills, they were confident they could conquer the challenges associated with starting and running a successful business. This formed the foundation of their partnership, allowing them to navigate the complex world of franchising with each other’s support. Before settling on Strickland Brother’s Oil, Jared and Bo dedicated months to research various franchise concepts. They analyzed market trends, assessed profitability, and considered factors such as brand reputation, support systems, and growth potential. This type of approach helped them narrow down their choices, ensuring they made an informed decision. As they dug deeper into the franchising world, they discovered that Strickland Brother’s Oil offered a unique combination of strong brand recognition, a proven business model, and exceptional support from the corporate team. Jared and Bo's extensive research pointed them towards Strickland Brother’s Oil as the ideal franchise opportunity. They were drawn to the company's reputation in the quick oil change industry and its commitment to customer service. Strickland Brother’s emphasis on community involvement and environmentally friendly practices aligned with their personal values, making it a perfect fit for their vision. With their interest set on a Strickland Brother’s Oil franchise, Jared and Bo wasted no time in researching everything they could. They carefully followed the franchisor's guidelines, ensuring they met all requirements. From securing financing to completing the necessary training, they left no stone unturned. Their dedication paid off when they officially became proud owners of three Strickland Brother’s Oil franchises in Knoxville. They were now ready to bring their shared vision to life, offering top-notch service, building relationships within the community, and contributing to the local economy. Jared Hill and Bo Hamilton's journey from researching various franchise concepts to becoming owners of a Strickland Brother’s Oil franchise exemplifies the power of friendship and determination. Through their support for each other and their in-depth research, they found the perfect opportunity to combine their entrepreneurial spirit with a trusted brand. With their shared vision, they are poised to make a lasting impact in Knoxville's oil change industry. I took the opportunity to fly to Knoxville and meet everyone personally. By meeting and breaking bread together I could see why these three gentlemen are successful and why they are such good friends. It proves the adage of “birds of a feather flock together”. We’ll be hearing more about these gentlemen as they grow their businesses. It all started with the introduction of friends to the world of franchising. Are you a car guy? I am. I grew up around cars and have owned close to a hundred myself. They are a fascination and for many they are part of our culture. They embody camaraderie and friendship over a common passion and have become an integral part of our American identity. As Marc Anthony once said “If you do something you love, you’ll never work another day in your life.” So if you have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, why not look into buying an automotive franchise, right? Not so fast… Prior to being a consultant and helping my clients discover franchise opportunities, I owned a car dealership. I was young and I wanted to do something I enjoyed. But let me tell you, the car business is tough! It is certainly not what I thought it was going to be. We offered a variety of services. We had sales, finance, parts, and service. Our service department included routine maintenance, performance upgrades, lift kits, dent repair, and window tint among other things. We also built custom limousines and did high end restorations. Our facility was 25,000sqft of pretty much everything you could ever want or need for a vehicle. What I realized through that experience is that there are some parts of the automotive industry that were fun, exciting, and profitable while others were a 24/7 pain in the butt. For example, there are a lot of automotive franchises that specialize in service. You have the general automotive repair franchises, transmission franchises, etc. Here are some things you need to prepare yourself for if you are going to look at one of those. Firstly, that is not a clean business. You are dealing with dirty and grimy work. There are also hazardous chemicals that need to be disposed of properly. But the biggest challenge I faced was in finding good help. For these kinds of jobs, you need certified technicians. A good mechanic is extremely hard to find and even harder to keep. Even if you find a good one, they are still human so they are going to make mistakes, right. Well, what happens when they repair intake gaskets on a vehicle and didn’t see that nut that fell into the intake as they were putting it back together? You deliver the vehicle and then next thing you know the car is back with a misfire. Come to find out it damages a piston as it fell through the valve and now that $600 job that you made a couple hundred on now requires a $6000 motor. For those of you who have been in this industry, you would say “yeah but that’s rare”. That’s true, but it happens. If you try to ask that technician to cover those losses then you might as well call that rollback and help them load up their toolbox yourself because they are gone. You’re going to have to eat it, or at least most of it. Let’s say you own a transmission repair business. Have you ever gotten transmission fluid on anything? It is one of the nastiest things to deal with. It’s smelly and it’s almost impossible to get off anything that is not a smooth surface. The same labor issues still apply. But there are a few automotive industries that are none of those things. Like window tint. This is a business that is clean, well lit, and well organized. Dust is the enemy of window film. If you are opening a franchise with your spouse, it’s a place that they will be comfortable. Second, it’s a small footprint. My dealership cost me a fortune in expenses before I ever made a dime. These businesses can be operated out of a very small commercial location which keeps your overhead low so you can sleep easier at night. Third, labor is much easier to find and keep. This is a trainable job. Most window tint franchises can train someone how to tint windows in a week or so. Then, once they have that skill, they can make better money than other types of jobs out there in a simple retail environment which makes the employees sticky. They now have a career where they can make good money, and you can too. Fourth, window film is universal. You don’t need to carry inventory for numerous makes and models. That saves space and improves cash flow. Fifth, if your tinter messes up a window, you just peel the film off and redo it. NO BIG DEAL, film is cheap! Finally, let’s talk about margins. This is an industry with great profit margins. If you were looking across multiple industries for a simple retail type of business, then the more you look at these types of businesses, the more you will like the simplicity of them and the opportunity for a savvy car guy to be surrounded by the cars they love while having fun at the same time. There are lots of great franchises in the automotive industry but there are some things you should consider when making that decision. If the idea of a simpler automotive franchise, like window tint for example, interests you then take a look at what it has to offer in terms of the lifestyle you are looking for as well as your income requirements. Like any other industry in franchising there are good tint franchises as well as bad ones. Take advantage of the experience that comes from working with a franchise consultant to find the right automotive franchise for you. We are a great and free resource that will help you along your journey to get to where you want to be. Home inspections have become a vital part of the real estate sector, providing buyers and sellers with reliable information about the condition of a property. The U.S. building inspector industry, measuredAt the ripe age of 27, Jesse Durham was so impressed by his dealings with Pillar To Post Home Inspectors during his career as a Realtor, he decided to become a franchise owner with the No. 1 home inspection company in North America in 2021. The Fort Worth resident is serving homebuyers and sellers throughout Tarrant and Johnson counties, Texas focusing primarily on north Fort Worth. Durham was a Realtor in southeast Michigan before relocating to Texas. “I enjoyed every minute of my career in real estate but when we moved to Fort Worth, I decided to make a leap while still staying close to the real estate market. I wanted to put my skills to the test,” said Jesse. “Choosing Pillar To Post Home Inspectors was an easy choice for me. I was able to see firsthand the Pillar To Post Home Inspectors’ difference as a Realtor. It made it clear to me that if I wanted to be successful, then that is the franchise to choose.” Jesse couldn’t have chosen a more interesting and opportune time to join the growing home inspection franchise. During and after the COVID crisis, the real estate market in general was out of control. Houses were going for double the value of the year before due to people deciding that if they had to be home, they wanted more space or their ‘dream home’. “Home sales were booming,” said Jesse. “Cash bids were coming in at sometimes 30 to 40% over asking price in many markets, which until then was unheard of”. Fortunately, at that time Pillar To Post was rolling out new technologies they had been working on for years. Fast tracked then to accommodate the required ‘contactless’ home inspection, these new technologies zoomed the company forward. “Buyers were often pressured to forgo the home inspection and other contingencies to get to the front of the line and have their bid accepted by the seller. I knew that was a huge mistake buyers would regret, so I was very happy we had the tools to step in quickly and conduct thorough home inspections without the Realtor or Buyer present. They got a thorough report, digitally, with many features that were not easily available at that time,” said Jesse. Jesse stresses, “I decided to make a leap to home inspection because it kept me close to the real estate market. I wanted to use all the valuable skills I gained as a Realtor, and thankfully that plan really paid off. In a bustling, crazy real estate market, we kept our cool, stressing to everyone to NOT skip a home inspection, especially because it was such a competitive market. People who were convinced to skip some contingencies to “get that house” have lived to regret skipping their home inspection. The company has achieved the highest standings in various rankings of “Best in Category,” “Top 20 Franchises to Buy,” “Top 10 Global Franchises” and “Top Franchises for Veterans” in addition to achieving 5-Star status with VetFran, a program offered by the International Franchise Association that provides discounted franchise fees to veterans. “It has always been a dream of mine to own my own business,” Jesse said. “I want my kids to grow up seeing that hard work can pay off. And pay off it did when he was named the company’s Rookie of the Year for 2022. “It doesn’t get much better than this when you more than obtain your goal during the first year in business,” concluded Jesse. About Pillar To Post Home Inspectors® Founded in 1994, Pillar To Post Home Inspectors is the largest home inspection company in North America with home offices in Toronto and Tampa. There are nearly 550 franchises located in 49 states and nine Canadian provinces. Long-term plans include adding 500 to 600 new franchisees over the next five years. It was a bright, sunny morning, and excitement filled the air as I anxiously waited for the clock to strike 10:00 a.m. Today was the day I had been eagerly anticipating for months - the day I would finally obtain my driver's license. For me, this milestone represented newfound independence, a ticket to exploration and adventure. As the clock struck the magical hour, my heart raced with anticipation. We went to the DMV early as I didn’t want to be late. The instructor got into the car and we drove around the cones, parallel parked and went through the test. I passed! My parents were excited for me and I could barely contain my happiness. My dad said he remembered when he got his license like it was only yesterday. It really is a rite of passage. We went home and I was ready to go on my first solo trip. I adjusted the mirrors, ensuring a clear view of my surroundings. Taking a deep breath, I pulled out of the driveway as a wave of exhilaration washed over me. The empty passenger seat beside him seemed to beckon me toward a world of possibilities. The engine purred, the sun was shining and I was off. I turned up the volume on the radio, relishing the freedom of selecting my favorite songs and singing along at the top of my lungs. The familiar streets of my town took on a new hue as I explored them from the driver's seat. The once-familiar sights appeared different, somehow more vibrant and alive. I wanted to go to my friend's houses but first I wanted to drive all by myself. Alone. Free. With each turn, my confidence grew. The apprehension I had initially felt was replaced by a sense of mastery and control. I reveled in the smoothness and precision of the car. We were in perfect harmony, united in our pursuit of the open road. With the wind in my hair and the Miami sun in my face, I felt the thrill of independence coursing through my veins. I reflected on the countless rides I had anticipated during my years as a passenger and realized that this was just the beginning of a lifetime of adventures. As the day turned to dusk, I reluctantly made my way back home. I could go see my friends another day. Today was for me. The satisfaction of this first solo drive lingered, leaving behind memories that would last a long time. As I parked the car in the driveway, I stepped out of the vehicle and took one last look, knowing that this was the start of a new chapter in my life. Many of you will fondly remember your first drive. I know I will for a long time. Maybe forever. When I think about how this feeling of independence unifies us and how I have now irrevocably become a consumer of all things automotive, what a great business opportunity there is in the car field. It is something that everyone needs.

With electric vehicles (EVs) representing less than 1% of the 250 million cars, SUVs, and light-duty trucks on U.S. roads, traditional oil change franchises have a significant window of opportunity to generate profits in the current market. As cars remain on the road for longer periods, the demand for maintenance services for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles persists. In this article, we will compare the ownership experiences offered by four prominent franchises — Strickland Brothers, Speedee, Grease Monkey, and Costa Oil—while considering the slow adoption of EVs and the extended lifespan of vehicles.

August is Back-to-School month for most American families with school-aged children. When parents are focused on gathering supplies and clothes to prepare their kids for success, thoughts about their child’s nutrition might include a new lunchbox, but often not much more. Parents are doing their best, and we are right there with them. However, we declare that equipping kids with a quality, basic nutrition education and getting them excited about making better food choices may be the best way to prepare them for long-term success in school and in life. Introducing Kids Food Fight! By providing entertaining education on basic nutrition via a family game, Kids Food Fight empowers and inspires kids to make their own healthier food choices every day. The rising epidemic of childhood obesity and its devastating health consequences led clinical nutritionist Melanie Sliwka and wellness coach Kate Loftus to create Kids Food Fight. This is especially timely, as the American Academy of Pediatrics’ newly-released and controversial guidelines for treating obese children and adolescents advise weight loss drugs for children as young as 8 and bariatric surgery for children beginning at age 12.* Melanie thought up KFF after enjoying success with her adult nutrition program, Six Weeks to Cleaner Eating. Many parents who completed that program asked her to create something for their kids. It’s hard to convince kids to eat well. Honestly, until adults change the way that they're treating nutrition in their own homes, their kids will never change. Our kids are literally the victims of how we eat. This means if you have junk food, sugary cereal, and juice in your home, then your child will eat it. Parents need to do the work first or alongside their kids to be successful in good nutrition. After Melanie created the curriculum, she invited fellow mom Kate to join her with the parent perspective. For the past year and a half, we have built Kids Food Fight into the premier nutrition education program for kids. Our mission is to gamify food education and empower kids to make their own healthier food choices. Via daily food dares, weekly food experiments, recipe contests, an Unusual Produce BINGO card, and plenty of camaraderie, Kids Food Fight delivers simple daily nutrition insights for families. When so many food options are available worldwide, we help children understand food choices and make one smarter choice at a time. Kids Food Fight is a game played online over 28 days. Kids can earn 2 to 5 points each day by completing small tasks like eating a fruit or vegetable or playing ball outside for 20 minutes. Each week focuses on a different meal. There are 100 points possible. Kids who earn 86 or more points get a spot in our Hero Hall of Fame. The real magic is revealed in the Daily Missions. Players follow along the comic story of two kids, Giro and Fendi, as they go through their days fending off junky Immobilizers like DoughNOT and Pizzilla. Fortunately, our Healthy Heroes swoop in and help our kids make smarter food choices. We're excited to develop the game into an app, and we're actively seeking funding. We are also looking for ideas and donations of enticing awards that we can offer to really get kids excited to play and stick with it. Presently, the age range for our players is approximately 6 to 13 years old, and the kids in the KFF comic are in 4th grade. We look forward to further developing our comic and curriculum to appeal to middle schoolers, high schoolers, and even college freshmen, to continue their nutrition knowledge and empowerment. We run group games three times a year and privately. It is offered through private schools and afterschool programs. A few teachers have taken it into their classrooms. We aren’t operating in public schools at this time, but we would love to get there. The cost is $149 to join one 28-day game, or $249 for 3 games in a year. We also offer scholarships. If any kid wants to play and they can't afford it, we will scholarship them in. We want every kid who wants to play Kids Food Fight to play! Along with the macronutrients and how sugar affects the body, we teach portion sizes and why it's important to eat them together. We introduce them to food advertising and reading food labels. We also encourage movement to get kids outside and away from screens and devices. Kids are aware of their own bodies. Returning to school after the pandemic, they know if they are bigger than they used to be. Facing their peers was very uncomfortable for many. That’s another reason why this work is so important. We will follow our comic story kids as they go through middle school and… puberty! How do different foods affect you when you're going through puberty and how does that make you feel? KFF connects the dots for kids about how what they eat translates into how they feel about themselves and how they physically feel later. Our comic kids will go through high school and even get into college; there's still that freshman 15 (the average weight gain in pounds for new college students). Presently we have families from every time zone except for Hawaii and Alaska who have played our game. We look forward to sharing it worldwide via our game as an app. The program is simple and easily translated into multiple languages. We already have plans for Spanish, Mandarin, and German and interest from six countries around the world. We are excited to train people to be KFF facilitators. They will have access to our curriculum and game platforms and be able to run games whenever they like. Consider your baseball teams, soccer teams, Girl and Boy Scout troops, martial arts studios, dance, and gymnastics studios. If you know a group of kids and you care about their health and wellness, we invite you to become a KFF facilitator and potentially a future franchise owner. Melanie and Kate would like to thank Rick Morgin for the opportunity to share our mission with this successful audience. Rick, we are grateful for your guidance as we look into franchising in the future. Our next official 28-day game starts on October 1st. To learn more, visit our website, www.kidsfoodfight.com , or email us directly at info@kidsfoodfight.com . We welcome potential business partners, too. Information on the Six Weeks to Cleaner Eating adult program can be found at www.medmel.com. Here is what Nicole Berschback, dietitian, and author of Total Potential, says about KFF: "As a dietitian, I've always been conscious of my children's food choices and engaged in family meals, cooking, and food play. The real advantage to the Kids Food Fight was that it put my kids in charge, not me. They loved trying new foods to earn game points and to try to win BINGO. We laughed and wondered during food experiments. They learned about the building blocks of nutrition in age-appropriate and fun ways. Since doing the program, we have regularly included many new fruits and veggies into our diet. The program was a big win for our family!" Please play with us this October! We’re happy to see you then! ~ Melanie & Kate About the Author Rick Morgin is a Consultant with The Franchise Consulting Company and alumnus of Santa Clara University. Russell Vent wears a lot of hats for Paul Davis Restoration of Greater Rochester, NY and it appears he wears them very well, because he’s brought a Midas touch to the location that is one of the top performers in the North American franchise chain. “Pretty astonishing for a young man without a college education,” said David Savage, the owner of PD of Greater Rochester and Russell’s boss and mentor. “Russell having achieved professional success in the trades without a college education, now looks for every opportunity to provide mentorship to members of his team and those around him who may be on a similar path.” David Savage himself is quite the prized Paul Davis franchisee. He comes from an impressive career with General Motors as an engineer in the area of Hydrogen Fuel Cells, among other tasks and has owned the Paul Davis business for eight years. He’s built his Greater Rochester location into one of the most successful in the Paul Davis system which consists of several hundred offices in North America. And he prides himself on building great team players, something he sees as key for this particular industry. “You can interview a candidate and they look great on paper,” said Savage. “They say all the right things in the interview too. But until you really see how they perform under stress; you have no idea what they are capable of.” This is what happened with the 35-year-old Vent who joined the company in March 2017 as a project manager and was named general manager in February 2021. Vent oversees the company’s seven divisions, which range from Fire Restoration to Asbestos Abatement, and is responsible for 12 project managers, 4 directors, 6 sales and office staff members and 24+ field employees. It all translates into the success of the Rochester office – which is a full-service water, fire, content/textiles, mold, asbestos, and reconstruction restoration contractor – generating millions in profitable revenue annually with a history of 30 percent growth or more year over year. The office is on track to do $14 million this year. Its NPS (Net Promoter Score), a metric used in customer experience programs that is used to measure customer loyalty, increased from 42 to 82 during a three-year span. “Throughout the years, Vent has operated at all levels of the company. He has functioned as technician, estimator, project manager, accountant, coach, and mentor,” said Savage. “As is common in this industry, Russell has sacrificed countless nights, holidays, and family gatherings; when duty calls or the team needs him, he is there. Russell loves his work. He hopes to own a restoration company, and with likely expansion plans coming in the near future, that will be a reality soon.” According to Restoration & Remediation Magazine, millennials such as Vent are not only the largest adult generation in the U.S., but they are also the largest generation in the labor force at more than 56 million, per figures from the Pew Research Center. Vent has helped to drive the meteoric growth of Paul Davis through his dedication to employee training for improved technical skills and safety and focusing on customer satisfaction. He has also mentored four technicians who advanced into crew chief and then project management roles, who now produce sizable amounts of revenue in each of their roles. Vent is also an expert on asbestos abatement and hospital infection control practices for the entire Paul Davis network. “Restoration is a complex industry,” said Savage. “It takes many skills to be excellent in this business. One of those is compassion, as we see many people during one of the most unfortunate events in their lives. Restoring their property down to even the smallest item in a home, is crucial to the customer coming back from their crisis in a less traumatic manner. And it can become a part of a journey where they feel cared for and comforted. Our team members have to have all that and the skills to make it all happen. That’s why Paul Davis Restoration team members are known as ‘The Difference Makers’. We are very proud of that.” Vent concluded, “I cannot emphasize enough the impact Dave Savage has had on my growth. He has provided me with guidance, mentorship, and patience throughout the years. His patience and constant push for me to better myself every day is so critical to any success I have had.” About Paul Davis Restoration For more than 55 years, Paul Davis Restoration has restored residential and commercial properties damaged by fire, water, mold, storms, and disasters.
